Welcome message from the officer in charge of police operations
Dear football fans and visitors,
welcome to Munich, capital city of Bavaria, welcome to the Champions League Final 2012. Being the officer in charge of overall operations, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you in our city.
It is a great honour for us to host Europe’s best football clubs: Chelsea FC, FC Bayern Munich and women’s football teams Olympic Lyonnais and 1st FFC Frankfurt. The women’s Champions League Final on 17 May and men’s Final on 19 May are definitely this year’s sporting highlight and therefore at the centre of the world public’s attention.
Munich is a sports-minded city and hosts major sporting events on a regular basis. In 2006 Munich was already the venue of the FIFA World Cup, in the course of which six matches were held in the Arena constructed one year earlier in the north of Munich. Though, the new sports venue has not yet played host to a European football cup final.
I’m looking forward all the more to this major occasion coming up to the Munich police.
The Munich police relies on their well-tried and proven operational concept for major events. This includes dialogue and communication with all parties involved as well as transparency towards the public. Conflict situations will also be resolved primarily by means of communication. Though, troublemakers and offenders will be red-carded timely and consistently.
I can assure you that we have done everything possible and reasonable during our preparations and will do so on operation day in order to facilitate a peaceful course of all events. Please play your part in making the final a showpiece of sports enthusiasm and peaceful football passion.
Dear football fans, I wish you all a pleasant stay in our beautiful city and two exciting and unforgettable matches.
May the better team and fairness win!
Robert Kopp
Deputy Police Commissioner
